Who can participate in this study?

If one is admitted with a severe COPD flare-up

in one of the participating hospitals,

our motivated team of healthcare workers will check whether they are eligible for participation.

Afterwards, someone from the team will visit the patient

and together they decide on participation.​

​There are a few reasons why study participation is not possible for someone, like; 

  • one already does respiratory muscle training

  • one has an other than COPD lung disease as a primary diagnosis

  • one is currently treated for cancer

  • one has other acute problems with the lungs or heart

  • an intervention for the lungs is planned within less than 6 months

The study team always evaluates more in detail​ whether someone is eligible for participation.
